Rio de Janeiro

Rio_Travel TipsRio de Janeiro is a city best known for its beaches. Apart the most famous ones, i.e. Ipanema and Copacabana, there are several slightly lesser-known stretches of sand which are worth visiting.

Barra da Tijuca Beach is the largest beach of Rio de Janeiro and it stretches at a distance of 18km. It is widely popular for the clean and green waters with an uncommon wave formation. All this turns the beach into a real mecca for surfers, windsurfers, bodyboarders, kitesurfers and fishing enthusiasts.

Prainha Beach is a quiet and awe-inspiring crescent of sand, flanked by rainforest-covered mountains. Principally, it is preferred by families because of the quietness and the location of the beach, the soft and extremely white sands and the bright blue sea.

Praia Vermelha Beach is most probably one of the smallest beaches in Rio de Janeiro. It is situated in a cove and that’s the reason why the water is very calm there. As to the sand, it is in reddish-hue. Praia Vermelha is the best place to take a little break from the crowds of people in Rio.
