The whole island is filled with the Greek history, the Greek mythology being the most influential. The name of the capital city is related mainly to one of the most powerful ancient Greek Gods, i.e. Poseidon.
Not to be missed are the tiny village of Palaiokastritsa (or Old Castle place) with its monastery and beautiful sea views, and the amazing palace of the Empress Sissi and the gardens of the Achilleion.
If you visit the island at Easter definitely you should see the tradition of throwing down large clay pots from the balconies so that all devil forces are persecuted from any home. It’s a fabulous tradition typical only on the island of Corfu and nowhere else in whole Greece.
