Suriname_Paramaribo_1_SVARCParamaribo is the capital city and largest town in Suriname with a population estimated at roughly 266,000 inhabitants.

It is known for its ethnic diversity including mainly , East Indians, Maroons, Javanese, Portuguese, Native Americans, etc., as well as it has one of the oldest Muslim and Jewish communities in the western hemisphere.

Paramaribo exports in the first place gold, bauxite, sugar cane, rice, cacao, coffee, rum and tropical woods.

Tourism is a fast-growing and very important sector for the city. Most  of the visitors come from the Netherlands.

The historic inner city of Paramaribo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
