The present name of the city has a Greek origin (i.e. “Panoremus“, which means ‘always fit for landing in’).

Nowadays Palermo is the cultural, music and art centre of the island.

It is among the top tourist Italian and European destinations as well as one of the major cities of the Euro-Mediterranean area.
