The native residents of the city call it “Casteddu” which means a “castle“. The town has a population of nearly 150,000 inhabitants.

The city is the major economic and industrial centre of the island. It’s also a very important transportation hub as well as one of the largest and biggest Mediterranean seaports.

Tourism is one of the main industries of Cagliari. The city attracts a great number of tourists with its own and the nearby recreational beaches and coastline as well as the Carthaginian, Roman and Byzantine ruins and sites.
